About Me
I’m Staiva Thewo, originally from Lusaka, Zambia, and now based in Beijing as an IB MYP Design Technology educator. A love of learning, creativity has shaped my journey, and the belief that education should empower students to think critically and design with purpose.
My academic path has taken me across three continents, Africa, Asia, and Europe where I’ve earned Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Trade with a minor in Computer Science, Master’s degrees in Finance, Economics, and Education, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, and a Diploma in Computing and Information Systems. This diverse foundation allows me to bring together economics, technology, and design thinking in unique ways, creating classrooms that are both inclusive and future-focused.
As part of the IB-MYP Design Technology Beta Trial, I’m actively contributing to curriculum development, piloting new approaches, and shaping how design education evolves globally. In my teaching, I integrate robotics, coding, product design, and digital innovation to help students connect their learning to real-world challenges.
But my story isn’t only about academics and teaching. I’ve also lived the discipline and drive of competitive sport, having played tennis at the highest level as a member of the Zambian National Tennis Team. That experience taught me resilience, teamwork, and the value of pushing beyond limits qualities I carry into my professional life.
Outside of work, I’m a passionate sports fan and tech enthusiast. I love watching Formula One, proudly support Chelsea F.C., and enjoy exploring new tools and ideas that connect design and technology to everyday life.
At the heart of it all, I’m an avid learner someone who thrives on curiosity, embraces challenges, and believes in the power of education to inspire the next generation of innovators.
